Empowering displaced families on their journey to independence.

Who We Are

About

Dakota Woodlands is the only shelter for families experiencing homelessness in Dakota County. Our primary goal is to help families secure and maintain permanent, supportive housing by providing access to resources, education, and support.

Charity Volunteers

History

Dakota Woodlands began as Mary's Shelter, incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 human service organization on November 25, 1981, in West St. Paul, MN. Initially serving single pregnant women, the shelter expanded its services in 1993 to include single homeless women and women with children.

Then, it expanded to serve families, including single men with children. In 1995, it relocated to Eagan, MN, and was renamed Dakota Woodlands in 2000.
