About us...

Dakota Woodlands is a non profit 501(c)3 organization.  We are the only shelter specifically for families who are homeless in our community.  We are unique in many ways; Families stay as long as necessary to move from homelessness to homes of their own.  On average, families stay for two months.  During this time, we provide a variety of educational and supportive services which address the issues related to homelessness and help them to successfully obtain and maintain permanent housing.

  • We shelter 22 families at a time at our gorgeous facility.  We typically shelter 110 families annually.
  • Throughout the year, we assist at least 30 additional families with supportive services, who didn’t stay here.
  • 89% of their residents move on to safe, affordable housing.
  • We provide comprehensive follow up supportive services to former residents

Celebrating 30 years of successful service, the mission of Dakota Woodlands is to

empower homeless women to create stable futures for their families.

We received the 2009 Minnesota Nonprofit Excellence Award.

This beautiful hand-blown glass vase, made for us by the local artist, Robinson Scott is displayed here, along with a picture of our very proud staff posing with the award.

Recipients are reviewed and selected by a blue ribbon panel of nonprofit leaders after demonstrating superiority in more than a hundred management principles and practices for nonprofit excellence in their operations, governance, human resources, advocacy, financial management, fundraising, quality, responsibility and accountability.
